The carrier shown by default is the original assignee of the number range according to NANPA records. However, people switch carriers all the time while keeping the same number, so the current carrier can be a different company from the original assignee. When we have that verified, we show it separately as “current carrier.” If we don’t have it yet, you can request that we verify it.

Keep in mind that carriers can change over time, so the company actually serving a number today can differ from the original assignee shown in the registry — which is why we offer current carrier verification as a separate service, checked directly rather than pulled from a static list.
